Island Spirit
The Hatteras Long Range Cruisers are highly coveted little ships. True trawler economy yet with transatlantic range and systems. Many people dream of cruising to distant shores but the fact is most boats are designed for coastal or near coastal duty, the LRC is a true ocean rated vessel. The fiberglass layup on these boats is nearly bulletproof. She has a very clean minimal teak exterior. Full beam saloon which is huge in this size vessel. A true pilothouse with commanding views all safely placed behind the sea-shedding Portuguese bridge. With her active stabilizers and massive build there are few conditions one might ever face that would pose a challenge to her crews comfort. I personally own a DeFever 48 LRC and have faced two hurricanes at anchor (Sandy, Irene) and thousands of ocean miles in her. I would not hesitate for a millisecond to climb aboard Island Spirit in the same or worse conditions. |

From her owner:
From her owner:
- Motors ran 133 hours and we used less than 1.5 gallons per Detroit 453 (4 cylinder 120 hp each)...
- We averaged 6.5 gal per hour burning 869 gallons on the trip running a fast cruise of 1850 rpms averaged around approximately 8 knots (75 hrs on generator as well)
- She has a stbd 8kw Westerbeke generator that runs great and runs everything but all 4 AC units at same time. The 8kw will run 2-3 AC's at a time depending on which zones.
- she has a stack able washer & dryer that work great plus an ice maker & full size Fridge Freezer with compressor in engine room..
- We replaced all the stabilizer hoses when we got to Guatemala and did some cosmetic repairs inside & out...
- Electronics were all all upgraded in 2006 (RayMarine C120 color radar/chart/fish) but could use a new Auto pilot- it's operable but could use a new control head.
- Also upgraded back in 2006 was a new 600 gpd Village Marine watermaker but needs a new element (sat for 3-4 years and never flushed)...
- Hatteras LRC boats where made back in 70's & 80's and are extremely heavy and stable blue water cruisers with hydraulic Niad stabilizers
- she holds 1400 gallons of fuel in 4 tanks so she has a 3000 mile range easily at a slow cruise of 1650 rpm doing 7 knots.
